You probably know that making videos is the way to go these days. You may have even come across a few videos with clickable links and wondered, “Gee, how did they make YouTube videos clickable like that?”
Wonder no more, I’m gonna ‘splain it to you Lucy!
While you are creating your video using what ever video software you use. (I use windows movie maker and audacity – two free programs, though the choice is pretty broad when it comes to making videos) We aren’t going to get into the actual way to make a video, but if you have joined SunFrog Shirts as an affiliate and gone through their school, you will see that they have an interesting way of making videos from existing videos.
In the demo video they make at the end is a tee shirt slide. They really missed the boat, in my opinion, by not showing you how to make the link IN THE VIDEO clickable.
There are a couple of steps to make YouTube videos clickable.
- First you need to have your own wordpress site that is verified with your YouTube account.
- Next you need to install a plugin called “PrettyLink” – the light version is just fine. (read that free)
- Step three is to make a pretty link to your offer, in this case we are going to do a tee shirt collection. I have a collection for dog lovers the SunFrog link is https://www.sunfrog.com/Jill/Pampered-Puppy-Boutique my pretty link is http://jillehart.com/dogtees. See how the pretty link looks like it is a page from my WordPress site? This is important because YouTube looks at it that way too.
- Step Four is to have some places in your video or slides that you can make “clickable”. Here is a picture of the slide I added to the video I’m using for this demo:
See the yellow spot that says click here? That will get you to the collection. It works the say way in this video:
[yellowbox]A word of caution: Don’t do this with amazon products. Amazon does not like it when you cloak their links. You could however make pretty links to a webpage that has Amazon buy buttons on it so that it is very clear that you are sending them to Amazon.[/yellowbox]
